Title An Analysis of Soft Complaints in TV series A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era
Abstract
Under the background of such a rapid development of work and life, the pressure is becoming heavier invisibly. People tend to complain when they’re dissatisfied with others. Soft complaint is a new term to be put forward in this paper. Zhang Yijun defined soft complaint. This paper aims to make an analysis and a summary of the features of soft complaint on the basis of predecessors’s research. In addition, the realization of it was studied. TV series, A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era, are mainly about stories of families, which involves many interpersonal communication skills. Therefore, A Beautiful Daughter-in-law Era is taken as corpus, and examples and data are analyzed. And it is very important in people’s daily life to build a friendly relationship.

1. Introduction:
Complaints are very common in people’s daily life. But there is no doubt that complaint behavior is a speech act threatening people’s face and it harms the relationship between the speaker and the hearer. Under the background of fast-paced life，people have no time to communicate with others. What’s worse, with the pressure of life and work, people are easily be unsatisfied with others and express their bad emotion directly.
This paper classified complaints into soft complaint and strict criticism. Soft complaint refers to communicating with others in a friendly way or by well-meaning words to avoid quarreling and even fighting. Strict criticism means to express dissatisfaction or anger to the listeners through tart and mean words.
Soft complaint is a relative soft way to express people’s anger. The speaker who knows the way of complaining softly can convey his/her bad mood in a softer way. What’s more, soft complaint helps the speaker creates a more sound environment to communicating with the hearer. Interlocutors prefer a harmonious situation to communicate with each other. Therefore their communication will go smoothly. Soft complaint can make conflicts land softly. The words and presenting ways of soft complaint is easier to be accepted and recognized by the hearer. The communication between the speaker and the hearer will proceed more successfully. Compared with strictly criticism, soft complaint is a good way to carry the speaker’s point whatever the speaker complains.
This paper focus on the study about the features of soft complaint and the realization of soft complaint. Soft complaint can be used more in daily life instead of strict criticism when people are complaining. The paper is mainly made up of the following parts. At the beginning, the features of soft complaint are coming, focusing on the present topic, and no threatening words. And then, the realizations of soft complaint are discussed.
