Abstract As one of the most famous American novelists, Hemingway created various characters in his works. These characters have something in common-------‘Code Hero’. That is in the face of difficulties, they do not give in, retreat and dare to fight against the fate. Santiago, the hero of The Old Man and the Sea pushes the ‘Code Hero’ to the glorious. 52858

This thesis is to analyze the characteristics of Code Hero. The first part is an introduction, including literature review, background to author and novel. Through the introduction I will show what the ‘Code Hero’ is and a simple overview of the novel’s contents. The second part is something about Ernest Hemingway and Code Hero, and we will find out the similar between Hemingway and Santiago. The third part I will analyze the spirit specifically. And I will pide the thesis into three parts: Firstly, challenging the difficulties forever; secondly, hoping for the future; thirdly, sorrowing of Code Hero. And the last part of this thesis is conclusion.

摘要海明威是美国著名小说家，一生中创造了很多人物形象。虽然这些形象各异，但存在着其相似之处。而这个相似处被世人称为“硬汉精神”。“硬汉精神”即在面对困难时，不消极，不退缩，以顽强的意志和坚忍不拔的信念与之对抗并敢于与命运作斗争。1954年海明威凭借着《老人与海》这一作品获得诺贝尔文学奖，也正是这一作品中的主人公——圣地亚哥这一人物形象将“硬汉”精神表现的淋漓尽致并将其推至最光辉的顶端。

     本文是从主人公圣地亚哥这一形象出发，揭示“硬汉”这一形象。在论文的第一部分会对小说的作者，背景，以及小说的内容进行简单的概述。从而引出论文的中心论点----分析圣地亚哥这一硬汉形象。在论文的第二部分，会在论文中对海明威以及硬汉形象会有所分析。从而对比出海明威与圣地亚哥之间的共同点。在第三部分，论文会对主人公的“硬汉”形象进行具体的分析。在具体分析的过程中，论文会根据小说的内容将其分为三个部分：第一部分为永不放弃的“硬汉”形象；第二部分为乐观向上的“硬汉”形象；第三部分为悲壮的“硬汉”形象。 第四部分，论文会对分析所得的硬汉形象作一总结。
