5.1.4 Snacks in the English newspapers, magazines, and such kinds of media

The snacks occur in the media constantly accompanying with the related pictures. As to exchange culture, it can combine with some annotation after the transliteration in the particular situation.

5.1.5 Snacks in the literature

The English names of the snacks in the literature are supposed to propagate the dietetic and folk culture, so it should be with annotation after  the transliteration, at least, it has to clear the reading obstacles. Sometime, it can convey the culture of the snacks according to the context.

5.1.6 Snacks in the movies, TV dramas and such kind of media

Generally, the English names of the snacks in the movies and TV dramas come with the real object, so it can deliver the cultural information with the help of the plot.

5.2    The same snack, the same translated term

The culinary exchange among every area in China is extensive and frequent from the ancient time. The same snack, in different areas, will differ in production process and taste. As for this kind of snack, it must be in unification in translation, to promote the international culture exchange. On one hand, annotations after transliteration can hardly explain the nuances resulted from the geographical factors. On the other hand, if the annotations after transliteration are different while the English names are similar, it will confuse foreigners.
In the past, Yuanxiao(元宵) was translated to Glutinous Rice Balls for Lantern Festival, Tangyuan(汤圆) to Glutinous Rice Balls. English speaking people can summarize that they are two different food with the same material. But what are the differences? It can’t get the answer from such English name. Actually, the basic reason of such titles, like Yuanxiao and Tangyuan is the geographic factors. Even Chinese themselves can’t distinguish the differences. Furthermore, dietetic culture is one kind of the folk culture. The audience receiving the cultural exchange is the foreign general mass, but not the experts in culture and diet. Folk culture should be easily accepted by others, and then it can be loved by the masses. The general foreigners can progressively know about Chinese culture and Pinyin. As a result, the author suggests to unify the English name of Yuanxiao, such kind of same snack.
